Overview

  • Study aged care nursing courses in USQ's Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Gerontology) and further develop your skills in caring for elderly patients with complex needs.

  • Unlike other gerontology courses in Australia, USQ’s gerontology courses are flexible. You can study part-time and online while progressing your career as a registered nurse in the aged care sector.

After completing the Graduate Diploma of Nursing, you can take credit from these courses and continue to complete the Master of Nursing.

Entry requirements

  • Completed a 3-year bachelor degree in the area of nursing from an Australian university, or equivalent.
  • Hold a current Professional Registration as a Division 1 nurse, or equivalent, with either Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or relevant regulatory body in applicant's home country. 

English language requirements

You are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 7.0 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience

You may be eligible for recognition of prior learning if you have previously studied or have relevant work experience. This will help to reduce the number of courses that you need to study to finish your program.

Degree structure

To complete this degree students must complete 8 units. Most courses (similar to ‘subjects’) are valued at 1 unit. To study full-time you would usually complete 4 units per semester.
