The incidence and prevalence of heart failure is expected to rise in future as a result of:

- improved survival of people with ischaemic heart disease (IHD), especially post-myocardial infarction (MI)
- more effective heart failure treatments
- incidence or prevalence of patient comorbidities including:
- hypertension
- chronic heart disease (CHD)
- obesity
- diabetes
- chronic kidney disease (CKD)

- list the different types of device used to treat heart failure
- explain the management of acute heart failure
