This 1-hr webinar will help occupational therapists understand how the 2017 Australian stroke guidelines were developed, how research was identified and appraised, how recommendations were made, and implications for practice. Content will be relevant to hospital-based therapists, those working in outpatient or day therapy services, community and residential settings. Of the eight chapters, most time will be spent reviewing the rehabilitation chapter, managing complications chapter, and the community participation and long-term care chapter.

The webinar will demonstrate how to download PDF copies of each chapter, and conclude with suggestions for evaluating practice against the guideline recommendations.

  • Download PDF copies of the guideline chapters from the InformMe website
  • Understand the GRADE rating system for appraising research studies
  • Understand the difference between strong, weak and consensus-based recommendations
  • View and interpret the research evidence and rationale associated with topics
  • Plan how to audit practice against the guideline recommendations
PRESENTER

Annie McCluskey

Annie is an occupational therapist, educator, health services researcher and implementation scientist. She is an honorary academic at the University of Sydney and James Cook University, and member of The Stroke Collaboration, which delivers evidence-based stroke rehabilitation workshops. Between 2015 and 2017, Annie led the Occupational Therapy Working Party which appraised research and wrote several of the 2017 stroke guideline recommendations.
