Intensive Care Medicine Course

This comprehensive online intensive care medicine course covers the knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in intensive care medicine (ICM). This course has been developed in the UK by the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine. The elearning is suitable for a wide range of healthcare professionals working in critical care around the world, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and pharmacists.

Course Content

This online intensive care course consists of 10 modules.

Each module is divided into a number of easily manageable learning session.

Learning session takes around 20 to 30 minutes each to complete.

Topics within modules include the operating theatre environment, basic science and equipment, patient assessment, induction, post-operative management and incident management

Further modules also provide an overview of the general aspects of clinical intensive care medicine that are not specific to a particular disease or patient group – e.g. organ support and nutrition & fluid therapy.

The learner will then have access to a number of diseases that present to a critical care unit.

They give an overview of pathologies, which have been classified by medical and surgical specialty, such as cardiology, paediatrics, gastrointestinal and renal (for instance).

Modules on infectious diseases, trauma resuscitation, injuries and major incidents), requesting further diagnostics and monitoring follow on, with the programme concluding with topics such as patient safety, clinical governance and other ‘non-technical’ skills.

eIntegrity programmes are developed by NHS Health Education England’s e-Learning for Healthcare programme (HEE e-LfH). 

The programmes are high quality self-directed learning programmes.  They are designed to support training and CPD and are excellent resources alongside other traditional teaching methodologies.  They have been developed by the UK NHS for use in the NHS.  However, many of the programmes have international relevance, particularly the specialty training programmes which are often mapped to UK specialty training curricula.
