This course contributes to attainment of all the learning objectives expressed in ACRRM's standards for Domain 4 - Population Health.

On completion of this course participants should be able to:

  • Outline the steps involved in taking a population health approach to patient care
  • Elicit appropriate population health information
  • Undertake health promoting or preventive interventions for which there is evidence of efficacy and cost effectiveness
  • Appreciate the role and ethical considerations of recall/reminder systems
  • Adopt and review best practice protocols and guidelines in relation to population health activities
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the systems and structures necessary to support the integration of preventive activity into routine practice activity
  • Identify the risk factors, health problems and health needs of the community, and advise on, act or advocate for risk reduction and health enhancement
  • Critically appraise (using an evidence based approach) scientific literature and other relevant information to assist in decision making relating to patient management
  • Recognise the role of clinical audit in the continuous quality improvement of a rural/remote medical practice
