Liver Disease and Impact on the Dental Patient
This session provides an overview of some of the clinically important liver diseases you may come across as a dental practitioner.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe the physiology, relevant anatomy and pathology of liver diseases
- Describe the range of liver related problems that may present in dental practice
- Recognise signs and symptoms of liver disease in the dental practice setting
- State the impact drugs used in the treatment of such patients may have upon dental care provision
The liver is the largest solid organ in the body. It can weigh up to 1.5 kg. It can be found in the right upper quadrant of the abdomen.
Before commencing this session you should have knowledge of:
- Basic liver anatomy and physiology
Dr Sarai qualified in 2008 from Royal Free University College London Medical School. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology from University College London University in 2005.
Since qualification, Dr. Sarai has been working with the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Faculty of Dentistry as a tutor and examiner on their FDS and MJDF courses. In 2011 his contribution to the college was recognised with a Honorary Lectureship.
In 2011 he became a member of the Royal College of Physicians, London.
Dr. Sarai currently works within the Central London School of Anaesthesia as a Specialty Registrar.
Dr Ros Perring qualified in 2010 from St. George’s Hospital Medical School. In 2005, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Manchester.
In 2013 she became a member of the Royal College of Physicians, London.
Dr. Perring currently works within the North West London School of Anaesthesia.
