Master of Occupational Therapy Practice
The Master of Occupational Therapy Practice at Monash University is a professional-entry master’s degree designed for students who already hold a first degree in a related field. This two-year, full-time program provides an accelerated pathway to becoming a qualified occupational therapist, equipping graduates with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience required to practice in diverse healthcare and community settings.
Occupational therapy is a dynamic and people-centered profession that focuses on enabling individuals, families, and communities to participate fully in everyday life. Occupational therapists work with people of all ages who may be experiencing challenges due to illness, injury, psychological or emotional difficulties, developmental delays, the effects of aging, or life transitions such as retirement. The program emphasizes addressing barriers to participation and promoting health and wellbeing through meaningful engagement in daily activities.
Students in the program benefit from a curriculum that integrates theoretical knowledge with extensive practical training. The course includes supervised placements and fieldwork, ensuring graduates gain hands-on experience in real-world contexts. This practical component is essential for developing professional competence and confidence, preparing students to work across hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools, aged care facilities, and community organizations.
Admission to the program is competitive, with applicants ranked on academic merit and assessed against published entry requirements. Meeting minimum prerequisites does not guarantee selection, as places are limited. The program is structured to run on a term basis, commencing in early July, which allows for an intensive and focused learning experience.
Graduates of the Master of Occupational Therapy Practice are eligible for professional recognition and registration, opening pathways to careers both in Australia and internationally. The program fosters not only technical expertise but also empathy, adaptability, and resilience—qualities essential for occupational therapists working in diverse and evolving healthcare environments. By completing this degree, students position themselves to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals and communities, supporting participation, independence, and wellbeing.
