Every Australian known to Medicare or the Department of Veterans' Affairs will now own a My Health Record, unless they chose to opt out between 16 July 2018 and 31 January 2019.

This webinar aims to address medico-legal concerns raised by GPs and general practice teams in relation to participation in the My Health Record system, including the use of system data when making clinical decisions.

Presenters Dr Nathan Pinskier
MBBS, FRACGP

Nathan is a Melbourne GP with a long-standing involvement in digital health and practice management. He is a co-owner of a Melbourne based group of general practices Medi7. Nathan is also a board member at Peninsula Health where he chairs the Quality and Safety Committee and is an advisor to the Australian Digital Health Agency for secure messaging and interoperability. Nathan is the medical director of the DoctorDoctor Locum Medical Service in Melbourne and the president of the General Practice Deputising Association. He recently completed his term as chair of the RACGP Expert Committee for eHealth & Practice Systems where he oversaw the My Health Record GP awareness program.

Ms Sophie Pennington
Partner, HWL Ebsworth Lawyers

Sophie Pennington is a partner with HWL Ebsworth Lawyers. Sophie specialises in health law, acting predominantly for medical practitioners through their medical defence organisations and private hospitals. Sophie assists doctors with civil claims, disciplinary matters, coronial inquests, employment disputes and some criminal matters. She assists hospitals with similar dispute and also advises on policy issues. Sophie is passionate about health law, and believes it is imperative to find a balance between acknowledging the tremendous work done by health professionals in Australia with the need to ensure patient safety. Prior to returning to private practice, Sophie was the Head of Medical Defence and Service for Australia’s largest medical defence organisation.
