This session will cover the importance of measuring oral health, and the significance of including patient self-perceptions of health, along with professional judgements.

Learning objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • discuss the value of oral health measurement in monitoring individual patient and group patient outcomes
  • describe systems which can be used to monitor oral health outcomes

The primary purpose of dental practice is to support patients towards optimal oral health. In this session, we will cover the importance of measuring oral health and the importance of patient perceptions (of their own oral health).

Trainer with Denplan

Mike was a Principal in a large practice in Buckinghamshire from 1976 until 2006. Mike has worked as a trainer with Denplan since 1990, developing and delivering training courses, with particular interest in the audit and promotion of oral heath and the leadership and governance of dental practices. Mike is now also an Honorary Lecturer in Primary Dental Care at Birmingham Dental School. He is researching an MPhil on ’Measuring Success in Dental Practice’ at the University.
