The Goal Need for Program

Clear Standards exist for the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections. Nurses must be familiar and feel confident that they can routinely and realistically translate evidence and standards of practice into their daily routine care. Routine application of ‘Standards’ and the evidence that underpins them is not enough. Best patient outcomes rely on the nurse having up to date knowledge of infections such as causes, signs and symptoms and rationales for care. A professional conference that reviews the fundamentals of infection is timely if nurses are to improve patient outcomes for patients with infections.

Purpose of Program

This conference provides a practical approach to preventing and managing infections by interpreting evidence so as to enable nurses to ensure best health outcomes for patients.

Your learning outcomes:

Realistically apply established Standards to your practice aligned with organisational and national models of care

Prevent infections and reduce harm to patients through evidence-based care of common conditions, invasive lines and correct use of personal protective equipment

Patients with a suspected infection will be identified early and appropriate nursing management will be initiated

You will confidently communicate suspected inappropriate use of antimicrobial agents
