This webinar explores the notion of culture, and its specific use in healthcare. This will include the revision of commonly used terms (e.g. cultural competence, cultural awareness and cultural safety) and their implementation in occupational therapy practice. Critical aspects to consider in the implementation of culturally sensitive practice will presented. Specific considerations for the Australian context of practice will be explored, in line with the Australian Occupational Therapy Competencies (2018).

This webinar will enable participants to understand their own, their communities and their clients’ unique cultural characteristics. By identifying the multiple and correlated concepts shaping the provision of culturally appropriate services, practitioners will be able to develop relevant intervention strategies. In addition, this webinar will support the implementation of the Australian Occupational Therapy Competencies (2018) which identify the provision of culturally safe and sensitive services as a key aspect to consider for all clients. The Australian Occupational Therapy Competencies (2018) highlight cultural diversity as a relevant characteristic of the Australian society.
