Pain registrar case studies – Part 2 of 3 series

These case studies will cover a range of different pain presentations, outlining the case details and discussing a particular area of interest that the case demonstrates. Therefore, these webinars will be relevant for many other disciplines of the Physiotherapy profession.As each pain registrar is completing the College of Physiotherapy Specialist training programme, the case study presentations will be of particular interest to current registrars and anyone considering future participation in the Specialist training programme.

Presenter/s

Dr Anne Daly is an APA titled musculoskeletal and pain physiotherapist and is currently a Registrar of the College of Physiotherapists in the inaugural pain specialisation cohort. Anne worked for 25 years in the Physiotherapy department of the Austin Hospital where she was the head of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy for 15 years. She was also the senior physiotherapist in the Austin Health Interdisciplinary Complex Pain Service for many of those years. Anne currently works within a small private multidisciplinary pain group 'The PainCare Collective', she also provides group-based mentoring to private physiotherapy practices, as well as being a clinical consultant to WorkSafe Victoria and the Transport Accident Commission. Anne’s research has centred on Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and she has a number of publications on this topic. She also has a keen interest in patient reported outcome and experience measures. Anne’s current interests include Project ECHO, a world-wide telementoring program which aims to demonopolise healthcare knowledge by giving it away for free. In February 2020, Anne was part of the launch of the first Australian adult persistent pain ECHO.

Associate Professor Jon Ford (PhD and Titled Musculoskeletal and Pain Physiotherapist) is Group Leader of the Low Back Research Team at La Trobe University where he conducts clinical research on the effectiveness of individualised treatment for pain problems. He has published over 40 papers predominantly on the classification and treatment of low back pain. Jon is also the Clinical and Managing Director of Advance Healthcare which was founded in 2014. He leads and provides physiotherapy services in a multi-disciplinary pain management team working with chronic pain across six clinics in Melbourne.
