- : Online
Palliative care aims to assist in optimising the quality of life for individuals with a life-limiting illness. Research has demonstrated that individuals benefit most when palliative care in introduced as early as possible, as part of a multi-team approach.
This module is brief and has been developed with a broad focus for all those involved in the nursing care of individuals who may benefit from palliative care. In this way, whilst the module will serve as a good update for palliative care nurses, it is not specifically aimed at palliative care nurses.
At the end of this module participants will be able to:
- Understand the indicators that assist in identifying patients with palliative care needs.
- Describe the Australian Karnofsky Performance Status scale used to measure function and performance in oncology care.
- Identify the 5 clinical phases of palliative care.
