Persistent Pain course
This session provides an introduction to identifying, assessing and managing patients with chronic pain and complex biopsychosocial needs. It presents an overview of common issues with this patient group and how to start addressing them during consultations.
By the end of the session you should be able to:
- Identify biopsychosocial barriers to recovery
- Discuss strategies for helping patients to engage with self-management
- Explain how to communicate effective and consistent messages about pain to improve patients’ understanding of their condition
- Outline simple strategies for facilitating behaviour change
- Evaluate when you have optimised your therapeutic input and when to request an onwards referral to a specialist team
