COURSE OVERVIEW

The Professional Diploma of Aesthetic Medicine will help you acquire the most advanced clinical knowledge and critical awareness of aesthetic medicine principles and treatment options. The course has been designed for medical practitioners who wish to build on the knowledge gained from the Professional Certificate and Advanced Certificate of Aesthetic Medicine. The prerequisite for this course is the completion of the two-day Expert Workshop in Aesthetic Medicine, which has a greater focus on difficult and complex cases in aesthetic medicine. Submission and analysis of medical practitioners’ own cases are a key feature of this course. 

This course is the final part of the three-part Professional Diploma of Aesthetic Medicine. The education pathway is Professional Certificate of Aesthetic MedicineAdvanced Certificate of Aesthetic Medicine and Professional Diploma of Aesthetic Medicine + Expert Workshop.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND COURSE REQUISITES

The Professional Diploma of Aesthetic Medicine is ideal for medical professionals seeking the most advanced clinical knowledge and critical awareness of aesthetic medicine principles and treatment options, with immediate applicability to their day-to-day work. Participants will build upon the knowledge gained in the Professional and Advanced Certificate levels, with a greater focus on complex cases in aesthetic medicine and the required know-how to setting up their own aesthetic medicine clinic. The course is suitable for general practitioners and International Medical Graduates. Participants must have completed the Advanced Certificate of Aesthetic Medicine (or a qualification deemed equivalent) and HealthCert also recommends successful completion of at least 50 cases of aesthetic medicine prior to enrolment. 

Recognition of Prior Learning

Professionally accredited qualifications and prior studies may be recognised for entry into this course. Please send an email to credit(at)healthcert.com for an individual assessment of your prior qualifications and experience. This email should contain information about your educational history and work experience that specifically pertain to the content and procedures covered in the Professional Certificate of Aesthetic Medicine and Advanced Certificate of Aesthetic Medicine. Please include any applicable certificates and course outlines from previous education. The relevant Course Chair will make a determination on your application within three working days.

COURSE CONTENTS

The program provides advanced training in aesthetic medicine, allowing practitioners to manage more complex aesthetic procedures. Participants must complete the mandatory face-to-face Expert Workshop including practical sessions under the guidance of experienced clinicians.

The Expert Workshop (Prerequisite of the Professional Diploma) covers:

  • Vascular treatments, hair removal, and scar management
  • Pigmentation disorders and melasma
  • Resurfacing (CO2 laser, Erbium laser, radiofrequency)
  • Cryolipolysis and body shaping
  • Acne and rosacea treatments
  • Difficult Botulinum toxin cases
  • Dermal fillers for forehead and temples

Course participants will:

  • Observe experts performing aesthetic medicine techniques on a large screen with close-up camera during the face-to-face Expert Workshop.
  • Perform aesthetic techniques in a simulated environment and receive feedback during the face-to-face Expert Workshop.
  • Participate in online discussion of patient cases, evaluate and make decisions.
  • Receive a comprehensive course folder and research/readings in the field.
  • Receive unlimited and ongoing access to free alumni learning resources, video lectures, and discussion forums, as well as invite-only events and special offers after completion of the course.
  • Receive ongoing post-course support through webinars and case reviews.
  • Have the opportunity to participate in optional clinical attachments at dedicated aesthetics clinics.

COURSE DELIVERY AND ASSESSMENT

This final stage of the Professional Diploma of Aesthetic Medicine consists of eight units. Participants are also required to complete a two-day face-to-face Expert Workshop. Course learning materials will be available for a minimum of 15 weeks, including pre-reading activities, individual assessment tasks and finally two online examinations.

In order to meet the requirements of professional and academic learning, the course assessment includes professional requirements and two online examinations.

  • Complete a two-day face-to-face Expert Workshop in Aesthetic Medicine.
  • Develop a report/explanation of how the learning from this course will help you with your professional development.
  • Complete a literature review of three articles nominated by the course chair.
  • Document with photographs 25 related cases including application of the knowledge.
  • Online assessment

    • 120 knowledge questions based on a scenario of a medical practitioner undertaking special interest training.
      • 15 per module
        Example: The medical practitioner believes that 10% of the population … Is he correct?  Yes/No
    • 120 authentic scenario based questions based on cases of patient care at a clinic
      • 15 per module
        Example: A patient arrives at your clinic with this problem … What should you do?  Multiple choice images based on patient cases.

    The knowledge-based examination is worth 50 per cent and the application-based examination is worth 50 per cent. The overall pass mark is 80 per cent. It is therefore not possible to pass this course on knowledge alone. Knowledge must be successfully applied to patient cases in order to pass the course.

    HealthCert recommends completion of all requirements at your convenience within six to nine months of the completion of the course.

    CERTIFICATION AND ACCREDITATION

    Upon successful completion of all course rquirements, you will receive the Professional Diploma of Aesthetic Medicine.

    RACGP: 40 RACGP Category 1 QI&CPD points
    ACRRM: 30 ACRRM PRPD points

    This program:

    • Is recognised by Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP). The RNZCGP recognises all courses endorsed by the RACGP. Peer review and audit are compulsory.
    • Is quality-assured by Bond University.
    • Is recognised by the Hong Kong College of Family Physicians (HKCFP). The HKCFP recognises all courses endorsed by the RACGP. Points are calculated differently.
    • Has been submitted to the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Doctors may join the academy, which has 26,000 physician and scientist members in more than 120 countries.

    Australia-based course participants, please note that HealthCert certificates are not accredited by TEQSA or ASQA and do not fall within the Australian Qualification Framework. All HealthCert certificates  are professional development awards, accredited by RACGP, ACRRM and RNZCGP.

    EDUCATION PATHWAYS

    Certified Clinical Attachments Pathway

    Clinical Attachments are optional and available on a 1:1 basis. These provide the opportunity to observe aesthetic medicine physicians and ask questions of the expert performing the procedures. Many doctors find this a very valuable learning experience. 

     

    Pathway to Professional Association

    Experienced doctors who have completed HealthCert Aesthetic Medicine courses may apply to join the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. The academy has 26,000 physician and scientist members in more than 120 countries. HealthCert partners with the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine for medical training in the USA.
