Description
This session covers the natural history, clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of patients with lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV), chancroid, donovanosis and mpox.

Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • describe the presentation, natural history and causative organisms of LGV, chancroid, donovanosis and mpox
  • describe the clinical appearances, complications and differential diagnosis of LGV, chancroid, donovanosis and mpox
  • describe the epidemiological features of LGV, chancroid, donovanosis and mpox
  • list the diagnostic tests for LGV, chancroid, donovanosis and mpox
  • state the optimal treatment regimens for LGV, chancroid, donovanosis and mpox

This session looks at the following causes of genital ulceration (Figure 1):

  • lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV)
  • chancroid
  • donovanosis
  • mpox

The natural history and clinical features of each condition are covered in turn. The important epidemiological features are described. Laboratory tests and treatment are discussed.
