Join thousands of general practitioners nationwide

Melanoma is a type of cancer with which Australian general practitioners are, unfortunately, all too familiar. Melanoma accounts for 75% of skin cancer deaths. According to the Melanoma Institute Australia, approximately 14,000 Australians are diagnosed with melanoma annually and more than 1,800 die from melanoma each year – that is five people a day! Sadly, Australia has the highest incidence of melanoma in the world – with melanoma rates doubling from 1986 to 2006 - and they are still rising.

At Australian Clinical Labs, we offer you the support to evaluate your prognostic knowledge of skin cancer medicine and improve the health outcomes of your patients, while also earning Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points. The Skin Excision Evaluation Program enables general practitioners, who refer skin histology specimens to Clinical Labs, to submit provisional diagnoses for cases where histological evaluation is needed.

A CPD program that benefits your patients

Our Skin Excision Evaluation Program provides a beneficial education opportunity for general practitioners. The program aids skin cancer management for patients by improving the identification of high-risk lesions so they can be treated at an early stage.

Simply send a minimum of 40 samples within 12 months of enrolment, using the Skin Excision Evaluation request form (with compulsory clinical data completed on the reverse), and you will be eligible to obtain points.

As you progress through the program you can rely on our expert pathologists to give you accurate diagnostic assessments. You can contact our pathologists personally if you have any questions along the way.

Compare your performance with your peers

As you progress through the program, your results are then made available to you via a monthly Skin Excision Evaluation Report, which highlights your performance against that of your peers and national benchmarks, while maintaining the confidentiality of all clinicians.

You will receive relevant statistical data presented in user-friendly charts, so you can identify areas for more practice and development.

Through consistent feedback from our unique reporting portal, you will see an increase in the accuracy of your diagnoses, an improvement in your clinical skills, and an increase in your confidence with patients. Monitoring adequate margin control and appropriate removal of pathological lesions can reduce patient risk of subsequent invasive procedures and risk of cancer recurrence, scarring, and infection.

Earn CPD points today

The Skin Excision Evaluation Program is an accredited CPD activity. Participants enrolled in this valuable CPD program can submit both biopsy and excision specimens with a provisional diagnosis, confirming their dermatological diagnostic proficiency.

Australian Clinical Labs is a RACGP approved activity provider and has two Education Activity Representatives (EARs). Therefore, your participation in our exclusive Skin Excision Evaluation Program makes you eligible for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points.

To be eligible to obtain CPD points, you must:

• submit a minimum of 40 samples, identified correctly, within 12 months of enrollment,
• submit samples on the specific Skin Excision Evaluation Program Request Form with the compulsory clinical data completed on the reverse-side, and
• complete the reflection activity.

These activities will be submitted to the RACGP for 40 CPD points or to ACRRM for recognition of learning. An evaluation survey will be provided for participants to complete at the end of the 12 month program.
