Step to Work | Introduction to the sessions in the Step to Work programmme
About the programme
Moving into the role of a registered allied health professional (AHP) marks an important, and often challenging, transition along both a professional and personal journey. This transition includes, but is not limited, to the student into their first registered role, those returning to practice and those internationally educated working in the UK for the first time.
To ensure AHPs have the best possible start to their career journey, a high-quality preceptorship programme, which is tailored to their professional and individual needs, is essential.
Preceptorship is described as a period of structured support and development during periods of transition, during which the AHP will be supported to help them grow in confidence as an autonomous and accountable practitioner.
To maximise the support and opportunities that preceptorship offers, it is important that AHPs are well prepared for their preceptorship. This period of preparation prior to starting employment is referred to as pre-preceptorship.
The aim of Step to Work is to provide AHPs who are 'new to role' with guidance, support, and practical tools to help them reflect on the experiences and knowledge they have already gained to help them in their future roles. The programme will complement but not replace the need for high-quality preceptorship.
This programme consists of 8 learning sessions, together with this introductory briefing to the programme and an evaluation activity.
Your learning in the Step to Work programme is consolidated through the completion of tasks and reflections contained in a downloadable worksheet for you to complete electronically.
