Understanding the Blood Anatomy and Physiology

  • : Online

This learning program is designed to introduce you to the basic principles of hematology, specifically the cells, tissues and organs that comprise the hematopoietic system. You will learn about the various cellular and non-cellular components of blood, how blood cells are formed (hematopoiesis) and the different types of blood cells that protect the body against injury, infection, and disease. You will also learn about the functions of the blood, with a focus on the hemostatic or clotting response and the mechanisms through which it is regulated. The program concludes with a discussion of blood groups and the principles underlying blood transfusion
