Presenter Deanne Lawrie, Project Officer - Education and Training - Elder Abuse Prevention Unit
Deanne is a Project Officer, Education and Training with the Elder Abuse Prevention Unit(EAPU), which is part of UnitingCare Community's Older Persons Programs.
Prior to commencing with the EAPU Deanne worked for Seniors Enquiry Line and the Time for Grandparents Program, which is also part of the Older Persons Programs.
Deanne has been involved with the Older Persons Programs for 7 years and has worked directly on the helplines as well as provided training to aged care staff, volunteers and older people in the community.Course Content
In this session Deanne will discuss the definition and types of abuse, explore the types of abuse that can occur and ways to identify them.
She will also consider the broader context of elder abuse including clients from an LGBTI, CALD or ATSI background and examine preventative measure, interventions, reporting and responding to elder abuse.Learning Outcomes

- Understand and recognise the abuse of older person within the community and relevant legislation
- Acknowledge the importance for all staff involved in the provision of care to understand and recognise elder abuse
- Determine your duty of care and legislative requirements in an elder abuse situation
- Respond safely and effectively to elder abuse in your practice
