The Epilepsy Foundation provides epilepsy support services to people with epilepsy, their families and carers, and professionals in education, disability, aged care and workplace settings who support them, across Victoria and New South Wales.

Our services include:

  • Education and training for people with epilepsy, families, schools, early learning centres, disability and aged care providers and workplaces
  • National Epilepsy Support Service – first stop for information and referrals
  • Individualised, ongoing and comprehensive support services (including Epilepsy Management Plans, Emergency Medication Management Plans, individualised advice and support)
  • Assistance with accessing NDIS supports
  • Peer support for various demographic groups, face-to-face or online.

We work to ensure that:

  • All people with epilepsy and their families have access to information relevant to their age and condition and can understand and manage their condition well
  • Employers understand epilepsy and how to respond to the needs of their people living with epilepsy
  • Teachers and other professionals in care settings, such as in disability and aged care, understand people’s epilepsy and how to ensure they are safe and included
  • Society understands epilepsy so that people with the condition feel connected and included in the community.

Why us

The Epilepsy Foundation offers evidence-based education and training programs for allied health professionals, disability and aged care workers and professionals in health care settings.

Our trainers have a wealth of experience, with backgrounds and qualifications in nursing, direct care, disability and education.  All trainers hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

We understand that there are more than 60 different types of epilepsy and everyone’s experience with seizures is different.  Our training programs increase awareness and understanding of epilepsy and how it might impact on an individual, and improve skills to enable those with a duty of care to respond appropriately to a seizure, including administration of emergency medication.

For employers, our training helps to provide a safe and inclusive workplace for their employees, equipping staff with the knowledge and skills to confidently assist a person who may have a seizure while in their care.  Training also helps with staff retention as employees feel more supported by their employer, as well as helping to reduce risk in the workplace.

Employees will gain confidence and competence to manage a person’s seizure and to administer emergency medication, if required.

For those who have epilepsy, our training gives people who may be seeking employment, or who are already in the workforce, the confidence to navigate the issue of disclosure and managing their epilepsy in a variety of workplace settings.  We help to ensure workers feel confident in seeking and retaining employment.

Courses are flexible and can be delivered in a variety of ways including self-paced e-Learning modules or by one of our expert epilepsy educators. We can deliver in-person at your workplace, at our premises or via an online trainer-led webinar.
