Otological emergencies are a common presentation to GPs and EDs. Many of these emergencies arise spontaneously; however, they can arise as complications of common, outpatient-managed conditions.
Improperly treated, these can progress rapidly and lead to significant morbidity and even mortality. Therefore, prompt recognition and initiation of appropriate management are essential for these patients.
