The 2018, 36% of general practitioners (GPs) stated that endocrine and metabolic presentations were among the top three most general practice presentations.
Approximately 1.2 million adult Australians reported having diabetes in 2014–15, a number that had tripled since 1989–90. In addition to treating patients with diabetes alone, GPs also contend with the challenge of treating diabetes following complications such as myocardial infarcts.
Klinefelter syndrome affects 223 per 100,000 males; however, only 50% are ever diagnosed. Early diagnosis is crucial because the success rate for sperm recovery in patients with Klinefelter syndrome decreases with increasing age.
Subclinical hypothyroidism is thought to affect 5% of the population, and overt hypothyroidism affects 0.5% of the population. Precocious puberty affects between 1:5000 and 1:10,000 children, and females are affected ten times as often as males.
