Laying the Foundations eLearning provides an overview of early childhood learning and development from 0-8 years, with a clear focus on the dynamic interaction between child health, learning, development and wellbeing. The course is informed by the science of early brain development, current research and practice-based evidence. It provides multiple interactive learning opportunities with current information and resources about young children and their families. The course aligns with current early years policy and quality frameworks including National Quality Standards, Early Years Learning Frameworks and the National Framework for School Age Care.

Relevance to General Practice

General Practitioners play a significant and ongoing role in the early detection, assessment and treatment of childhood health development and wellbeing. Many families choose GP clinics for their child’s developmental checks rather than attending child and family health services. Laying the Foundations eLearning provides GPs with knowledge of the current perspectives and key principles underpinning child health, learning, development and wellbeing so as they are equipped to support families.
