192084 - Certificate of Primary Care Dermatology: Dermatological surgery and procedures workshop

Certificate of Primary Care Dermatology trains GPs to diagnose and manage common skin conditions (including skin cancer) and is open to all GPs and GP registrars.

Relevance to General Practice

The workshop: is available to all general practitioners (GPs) and GP registrars who have completed an online education activity, practical procedures in dermatology (the online activity takes approximately 16 hours to complete). It will be conducted by the RACGP and accommodates all skill levels, it has been very popular and successful when previously run.

Learning outcomes

Explain how to perform cryotherapy, biopsies, curettage, intralesional steroid injection, suturing, flaps and skin grafts

Describe the circumstances to perform and the risks of cryotherapy, biopsies, curettage, intralesional injection, suturing, flaps and skin grafts

Explain when and how to use non-surgical treatments for skin cancer, including complications and risks

Describe how to set up your clinic for surgical procedures and other specific requirements, including a surgical risk management checklist and register

Undertake practical instruction in performing biopsies, suturing techniques, repairs and flaps
