With the health practitioner’s expanding role, they are required to have a sound knowledge and demonstrate skills in the care and management of the deteriorating patient during a life-threatening emergency. As part of this role, the remote and rural health practitioner may be required to initiate and maintain ALS measures.

The online Advance Life Support Program (ALS) will provide the Health Practitioner with an opportunity to undertake a structured, flexible, self-paced course conducive to learning, which will assist in the achievement of ALS competency.

CRANAplus recommends that ALS is completed every two years and suggest that BLS should be completed prior to undertaking the ALS course.

Program Modules

  • Introduction to the ALS course
  • DRS - the Danger, Response, Send for Help elements of the ALS algorithm
  • Airway - Principles and Practices of airway management in ALS
  • Breathing - Respiratory support in ALS
  • Defibrillation - Cardiac Physiology, Arrhythmia Recognition and Management, defibrillation

    • there is no qualified assessor available on site (assessor is required to hold a current TAE40110/40116 Cert 4 and a current ALS certificate)
    • there is Skype (or equivalent) available and necessary equipment on site. Can be obtained either by a local assessor or via Skype with the eRemote Coordinator.
