Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Paediatric Dentistry)

Overview
In response to COVID-19, the University of Sydney has reviewed the availability of courses to be delivered remotely for students commencing their studies in Semester 1, 2021.
Students commencing this course in Semester 1, 2021 are required to commence their studies in-person on campus. Remote study is not available for this course.
Note: The University intends to offer as many units of study as possible in a remote as well as face-to-face learning method of delivery in Semester 1, 2021 and subject to ongoing border closures and public health orders impacting attendance on campus, in Semester 2, 2021. However, some units of study and courses require students to study in-person at the relevant University of Sydney campus/es and host locations for placements and will not be available remotely.
About this course
The Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Paediatric Dentistry) is aimed at qualified local and international dentists who wish to develop the comprehensive skills and knowledge to practice in the special needs of children's dentistry. This course is primarily clinically based with theoretical sessions and a research component in each semester.
In this course you will study preventive dentistry, behaviour management, child assessment and treatment planning, the management of orofacial trauma, childhood dental anomalies and genetics, and paediatric oral pathology and medicine. You will also complete a research project in the field of paediatric dental surgery or practice under the supervision of an academic staff member.
The program aims:
- to graduate specialists in paediatric dentistry who are competent and confident in all areas of dentistry for the growing and developing child.
- to produce specialists who are capable of carrying out scientific investigation in both clinical and basic science aspects of the specialty of paediatric dentistry.
- to produce specialists that are able to collaborate in multi-disciplinary teams concerned with the welfare of children.
- to produce specialists who are concerned with their own ongoing education and who are able to teach the dental care of children to others.
