Aneez Esmail,
Professor of General Practice, University of Manchester

Aneez qualified as a medical practitioner from Sheffield University in 1982. He is qualified as both a general practitioner and a public health physician. He obtained his PhD from the University of London in 1996.

Aneez works as a clinician in an inner city practice in Manchester (The Robert Darbishire Practice) and is Professor of General Practice at the University of Manchester.

He is recognised nationally for his research on discrimination in the medical profession and on patient safety. He has published extensively on areas related to public health and primary care. This includes work on prevention of cot deaths, epidemiology of solvent abuse, preventing paediatric admissions, evaluation of telemedicine and patient safety.

He is also responsible for large area of work looking at patient safety in primary care and is currently Director of the National Institute of Health Patient Safety Translational Research Centre in Manchester, a centre that focuses on research specifically related to patient safety in primary care.
