Description
This session describes the signs and symptoms that may manifest in patients diagnosed with common renal problems and the relevance of common renal disorders to the delivery of dental care.
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- discuss the pathology of important renal disorders
- identify patients with renal disorders
- recognise and manage complications of dental health which can arise in important renal conditions
- provide dental care appropriate to each renal problem
Renal disease is one the least comfortable subjects for the dental practitioner.
The concept of renal disease can be a confusing subject and requires an understanding of some indepth physiology, immunology and chemical pathology.
The dental practitioner needs to provide a screening outpost to recognise renal disease which is made easier if the structure and functions of the kidney are understood.
