Description
This session covers a more specialist approach to the management of non-gonococcal urethritis where chlamydia and gonococcal tests are negative or first-line therapy has failed.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Investigate chlamydia-negative non-gonococcal urethritis
- Describe the pathogenesis of urethritis, including non-infective causes
- Give appropriate information to patients who are diagnosed with non-gonococcal urethritis
- Prescribe antibiotics appropriately for recurrent urethritis
- Manage chronic healthcare-seeking behaviour, avoid dependency and increase patient self-efficacy

This session covers the aetiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis and management of chlamydia-negative non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) and persistent or recurrent urethritis, following treatment of NGU.
A case study will be used throughout this session to help you to think critically and apply your knowledge to a typical presentation of NGU. You will call upon your existing knowledge and consider the initial presentation of the case study before you are given more information.
