This session provides an overview of sexually transmitted enteric infections (STEIs).

Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • describe sexually transmitted enteric infection (STEI) syndromes
  • list the viral, bacterial and protozoal causes of sexually transmitted enteric infections
  • recall patterns of antimicrobial resistance in sexually transmitted shigella
  • manage patients with STEI including the use, or avoidance, of antimicrobials
     

Prerequisites
Before commencing this session you should:

  • familiarise yourself with sexually transmitted enteric infections and the new BASHH 2023 guidelines [1]
