STI Management course

This session gives an overview of the current management of commonly encountered sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Learning objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- 9.3.1 State how to access information about current evidence-based treatments of chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, syphilis, warts and trichomonas vaginalis (TV)
- 9.3.2 Demonstrate understanding of testing available locally
Healthcare professionals working in primary care and sexual and reproductive health will frequently encounter patients with sexually transmitted infections, both symptomatic and asymptomatic. It is important that these patients are offered advice and support alongside clinical treatment and, where indicated, follow up. The British Association of Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH) website offers patient information leaflets covering all sexually transmitted infections
Fiona qualified as a GP in 2005 and began work as a Staff Grade in Contraception and Sexual Health at the same time. She obtained her Letters of Competence in Subdermal Contraceptive Implant Techniques and Intrauterine Techniques and became a Faculty Registered Trainer in 2010. In 2017 she gained Membership of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health.
Since 2009 she has also worked as a Speciality Doctor in Genitourinary Medicine. She continues to work both as a GP and as a Speciality Doctor for the integrated Northern Sexual Health, Contraception and HIV Service in Manchester.
