Supporting Children in General Practice Using Focused Psychological Strategies
This online course is designed to support general practitioners in applying focused psychological strategies (FPS) when working with children aged 5–12 years experiencing mental health challenges. Developed by Emerging Minds, the course introduces practical tools and evidence-based approaches for engaging children and their families in primary care settings. It covers foundational concepts in child development, communication techniques, and therapeutic interventions that align with FPS Medicare item numbers. The course also explores how GPs can collaborate with mental health professionals and use brief interventions to support emotional wellbeing. With interactive modules, case studies, and downloadable resources, this training empowers GPs to confidently address child mental health concerns within the scope of general practice.
