TENS, Acupuncture and Alternative Treatments course
This session describes the roles of TENS and acupuncture in pain practice and introduces the wide spectrum of other alternative treatments that are available.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Describe the role of TENS and acupuncture in pain practice
- Describe the mechanisms of action of TENS and acupuncture
- List the indications and contraindications of these treatments
- Describe the problems in research to assess the effectiveness of alternative treatments
- Describe the diversity of alternative treatments used beyond the NHS
- Recognize the limitations and appropriate context for use of alternative treatments in modern NHS pain practice
