Collecting Data and Information for Healthcare course for GPs

This session examines how good leadership can be used to inform the evidence gathering process in support of any proposal or project. This information can be sourced and used to identify appropriate changes and improvements to services. The session supports the development of leadership in clinical settings.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session you will be able to:
- Identify sources of information for system improvement and change
- Define 'option appraisal' and describe how it can help source data
- Determine how the experience and opinions of other team members can widen the number of options to be considered
- Demonstrate your contribution to leadership by carrying out an option appraisal
This session will cover the ways in which decisions are made in organisations based on appraising options by gathering information and evidence.
Before commencing this session you should complete these sessions in the Introductory Module:
- Introduction to Leadership and LeAD
- Introduction to Medical/Clinical Leadership Competency Framework
Dr Veronica Wilkie is a General Practitioner (GP) in a training practice in Droitwich, Worcestershire, and a Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow at the Institute of Clinical Leadership at Warwick University Medical School. She has a master’s degree in Evidence-based Medicine and was a GP trainer, course organiser and postgraduate tutor, before starting her current post at Warwick University. She is currently working with the NHS Institute on evaluating the implementation of the Medical Leadership Competency Framework, and she teaches and facilitates courses on medical leadership and evidence-based practice (EBP). She is the Curriculum Guardian for the EBP statement for the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) curriculum. (March 2008).
