This is a case-based learning session on managing minor head injuries in general practice.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Assess head injuries in the pre-hospital setting
  • Recognise red flag symptoms for referral to secondary care
  • Manage post-concussion syndrome

The challenge is to identify those who require hospital admission for observation and further management whilst ensuring the safety of those who do not.

Dr. Alastair Moss is a British Heart Foundation Academic Clinical Lecturer at the University of Leicester and Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellow in cardiovascular imaging at the University of Edinburgh.

After reading medical sciences at Christ’s College, Cambridge, he completed his clinical training at King’s College London School of Medicine. The main focus of his research centres on the application of multi-modality imaging to better understand the molecular pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease.

Alastair  is involved in the PRE18FFIR study, the first multi-centre study to investigate the utility of coronary 18F-fluoride positron emission tomography in predicting recurrent myocardial infarctions.
