This session covers the most common gynaecological cancers and malignancies including cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and endometrial carcinoma. Causes of vaginal bleeding are also considered. The screening strategies for and management of women with gynaecological cancers is discussed.

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the presentation and primary care management of common gynaecological malignancies
  • Outline screening strategies relevant to gynaecological cancers and discuss their advantages and disadvantages
  • Describe and implement the key national guidelines that influence healthcare provision for gynaecological cancers

Screening strategies relevant to women are discussed along with an evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of screening for gynaecological cancers.

Mary qualified in 1988 and is a GP, trainer and course organiser in Haverhill, Suffolk. She is also an MRCGP examiner and casewriter. She writes extensively for educational journals such as Update, Practice Nurse and GP, and has written and edited general practice textbooks in addition to several novels.

Her main interests in medicine are paediatrics, child protection and expedition medicine. Mary is also involved in GP politics.
