This session gives an overview of the secondary causes of hypertension. It discusses some of the causes in more detail and gives recommendations on when to refer patients with hypertension to secondary care.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the more common causes of secondary hypertension
  • Identify how to investigate the younger patient with unexplained hypertension and interpret these investigations
  • Recognise when referral for further investigations might be necessary

This session will cover some of the more common endocrine causes of secondary hypertension, including the appropriate investigations and referrals needed for patients.
