This session covers the aspects of basic anatomy that are relevant to conscious sedation.

Learning objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • describe the basic anatomy of the respiratory system
  • describe the basic anatomy of the cardiovascular system
  • describe the anatomy of the heart and major vessels, along with coronary, head and neck circulation
  • describe the anatomy of the upper limb relevant to venous cannulation

Knowledge of basic cardiorespiratory anatomy is essential to enable the sedationist to appreciate normal function and understand anatomical considerations and limitations during sedation.
