Assessment for Dental General Anaesthesia
This session will outline the steps required in patient assessment for dental general anaesthesia.
Learning objectivesBy the end of this session you should be able to:
- list the risks and benefits of dental treatment under general anaesthesia and discuss the importance of patient assessment
- describe the type of information patients require prior to consenting to dental general anaesthesia
- describe patient preparation prior to dental general anaesthesia
Where dental general anaesthesia (DGA) is to be provided, it is essential to ensure appropriate procedures are adhered to in order to reduce risk and optimise patient care. Patients must be adequately assessed for their suitability for GA and full and appropriate information must be given to the patient or their carer, prior to written consent being obtained for the procedure.

- Overview of conscious sedation/Patient assessment for conscious sedation (141-0146)
