This session will cover the initial management of dentoalveolar injuries to the permanent dentition, the use of splinting following dental trauma and the common complications associated with dental injuries.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe the immediate and follow-up treatment for the different types of dentoalveolar trauma affecting permanent teeth
  • Describe the sequelae and long-term prognosis of different types of dental trauma to permanent teeth
  • Describe the requirements for splinting following dentoalveolar trauma

This session will discuss the management of various dentoalveolar injuries affecting permanent dentition, the associated follow-up protocol, and its common complications.

Entry Requirements / Prerequisites

Before commencing this session you should have knowledge of the assessment and examination of a child who suffered any form of dentoalveolar injury.

You should also have completed the following e-Den sessions in Module 8 Restoration of Teeth:

  • Dental Trauma/Introduction to Dental Trauma (141-0385)
  • Dental Trauma/Trauma In The Primary Dentition (141-0386)

Clinical Lecturer and Teaching Lead for Paediatric Dentistry

Sondos Albadri BDS, PhD, MFDS RCS (Ed), MPaedDent(Eng), FDS (Paed Dent), FHEA.

Following graduation with a BDS from Jordan in 1997, Dr. Albadri moved to Belfast and successfully completed a PhD in Dental Traumatology in 2001.

After completing a number of SHO posts in Sheffield, Dublin, and Liverpool Dr. Albadri was awarded MFDS RCS (Ed) in 2004.

This was followed by successful completion of specialty training in Paediatric Dentistry in Manchester and being awarded the MPaedDent in 2007.

Dr. Albadri recently completed her academic FTTA training in Liverpool where she currently works as a clinical lecturer and teaching lead for Paediatric Dentistry.
