Prerequisites
Before commencing this session you should complete:
- Module 1/Chaperones and Consent (260-0012)
This session covers a systematic approach to examination of the male ano-genital area.
The session begins by describing an appropriate visual inspection of the pubic and ano-genital area. It then covers the assessment of the area for lesions on the skin or mucus membranes and how to determine the presence, consistency and amount of urethral discharge. The examination of the scrotal contents is explained, followed by the identification of any perianal disease.
Finally, the session explains when and how to perform a proctoscopic examination.
The session should be considered part of a broader learning programme. You should not expect to be competent enough, following completion of the session alone, to carry out the procedures described without supervision.
