An introduction to the neonate or infant with congenital heart disease
This session provides an overview of fetal cardiology, antenatal diagnosis, postnatal diagnosis, common duct-dependant lesions and the delivery of continuous intravenous prostaglandin in these instances.
By the end of this session, you should be able to:
- describe the role of fetal cardiac services in the antenatal diagnosis and management of CHD
- give examples of some common duct-dependant cardiac lesions
- identify the immediate post-natal treatment needed for a neonate with a duct-dependent lesion
- identify the key clinical signs and symptoms of duct-dependent CHD that may be seen in the first two weeks of life
- understand the role of IV prostaglandin in the management of a neonate or infant with CHD or suspected CHD
