The Hot Topics Webcast is a succinct evening seminar that will be addressing common issues encountered in GP in Australia. It is comprised of 3 lectures, each 30 mins in duration, delivered by leading expert clinicians. These lectures have been recorded from Healthed’s l face to face events and have been converted to special format that display both powerpoint slides and speaker’s “talking head”. Only those lectures that are highly rated by GPs at the face to face event are used for the webcast. Topics have been selected in accordance with GP need and relevance. This seminar will cover three common issues in GP: Management of menopausal symptoms using hormone replacement therapy; COPD management in GP; and a guide to appropriate use of drugs and clinical resources in palliative care.
Relevance to General PracticeWomen's Health Initiative results of systemic hormone therapy are being misapplied to treatment decisions for women in their 40s and 50s who have distressing vasomotor symptoms. GPs in Australia are in need of education of appropriate use of HRT for management of menopausal symptoms. To help support GPs, ANZSPM, is promoting a framework of care that is based on a palliative approach and can guide clinicians to provide high quality end-of-life care focusing on a person’s preferences for care and delivery of holistic comprehensive care. Work in the UK and Australia indicates that the implementation of such a framework into routine GP allows people to receive the right care at life’s final stages. Advances in the management of COPD are updated quarterly in the national COPD guidelines, COPD-X plan, published by Lung Foundation Australia in conjunction with Thoracic Society of Australia and NZ has recently undergone substantial updating and it is important for GPs to update their management
