The RESP course provides essential skills in critical care, resuscitation and ALS. The course combines online pre-learning with a two day skills / simulation workshop. The workshop features intensive small group training in procedural skills and clinical simulation in the assessment and recognition of serious illness, resuscitation, stabilisation and transfer of the critically ill, and team skills, communication and clinical leadership.

Relevance to General Practice

Management of the critically ill or injured adult or child is a vital skill for all health professionals. Regular updates are essential for maintaining the important clinical skill sets and critical thinking to provide the highest standard of critical care at the earliest possible opportunity. All material is consistent with recommended ARC guidelines.

Learning outcomes
  • Demonstrate the procedure for assessment of the critically ill or injured patient.
  • Demonstrate the competency in procedural skills required for the immediate management of life threats to the airway, breathing or circulation
  • Demonstrate critical thinking in relation to the diagnosis and management of the critically ill or injured patient.
  • Identify approaches to maintaining and developing skills in emergency care.
  • Identify the criteria for immediate referral of patient in critical condition to specialist services or retrieval from MedSTAR/RFDS.
