Relevance to General Practice

The assessment and management of musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries is a significant part of the workload of general practice. Almost one in five (18.4%) general practice encounters relate to musculoskeletal problems, and almost a quarter of these occur as a result of injury.
The GP has a critical role in the management of sports injuries and other musculoskeletal conditions, and should develop skills in taking a history specific for these and developing a comprehensive management plan.
