163512 - RESP Plus Airway and Sedation Workshop
The RESP Plus: Airway and Sedation workshop focuses on essential skills in critical care and extended emergency medicine skills. The airway and sedation workshop addresses the challenges in rural practice to the management of the complex medical patient, management of the severely agitated patient, procedural sedation in the rural setting and anaesthetics upskilling.
Each session will have a particular focus on emergency presentations in a rural setting.
Rural and remote GP’s and GP Anaesthetists are often the first contact to manage the complex patient and airway management and procedural sedation are core skill areas for these emergency patients. Airway obstruction will result in severe hypoxia followed by cardiac arrest within minutes. This workshop covers the skills to clear the obstructed airway, provide definitive airway support and ventilate the patient using a bag and mask and ventilator. Procedural sedation is a vital skill for the management of a wide range of common trauma related and non-trauma related emergencies. It may be used in both adults and children to ensure adequate analgesia and amnesia during a painful procedure. It requires a specialised set of skills to avoid the sedation causing hypoxia or hypotension as a consequence. Explore the preparation of the patient, the drugs suitable for use in procedural sedation and the associated complications.
Accredited training for continuing credentialing in GP-Anaesthesia.
