The goal of palliative care is to improve the quality of life (QoL) of patients with an active, progressive disease that has little or no prospect of a cure. The aim of this course is to educate GPs on the use of medicinal cannabis in palliative care to improve patient's QoL.

Relevance to General Practice

Many GPs lack knowledge about how to help patients legally access medicinal cannabis and feel their knowledge is inadequate to discuss access, safety, and effectiveness. Some goals of palliative care include relief from pain and other distressing symptoms, and the enhancement of quality of life (QoL). The usage of medicinal cannabis in palliative care settings, where the focus is on individual choice, patient autonomy, empowerment, comfort and especially QoL requires training and education around it's use to enable GPs to talk to their patients and deter them from using illegal cannabis and empower them to use the evidence-based approach
