The need for a new trauma course that more accurately reflected the modern, Australasian, Emergency Medicine approach to trauma was identified by Dr Andy Buck (FACEM) and Dr Amit Maini (FACEM) in mid-2012 and the course took approximately 12 months to create.
An online Trauma Education Needs Analysis survey was undertaken in late 2012 with almost 200 respondents. The results of this survey were used to guide the development of the course content and ensure that it specifically addressed the needs of local Emergency practitioners.
Since then, ETM has grown annually from just 2 courses in 2013 to 16 courses in 2020 around Australia and New Zealand. In that time, over 1600 participants have successfully completed the course, with all participants agreeing that the course allowed them to achieve all stated learning objectives.
Whilst being founded on traditional educational principles, ETM has developed a strong understanding of the educational needs of the current and future generations of participants.
