Diabetes Queensland is the peak body for people with diabetes in Queensland - providing a single, powerful and collective voice for the diabetes community - and has been since 1968.

Supporting NDSS registrants and financial members across Queensland, Diabetes Queensland works diligently to improve the lives of people affected by all types of diabetes by providing ongoing education, support and advice to people affected by all types of diabetes, health professionals, government, researchers and the broader community.

Our mission

Diabetes Queensland is the peak body for people with diabetes in Queensland, providing a powerful voice for people living with or at risk of diabetes.

We are committed to improving the lives of people living with all types of diabetes and those who may be at risk of developing the condition. We are a trusted and responsive source of information, support, and education for Queensland’s diabetes community.

Our two goals are to:

Improve the health and wellness for people living with all types of diabetes
Reduce the incidence of preventable diabetes in the community
Our work focuses on four key areas:

Awareness and Advocacy

Diabetes Queensland delivers educational campaigns and media activities to raise community awareness about the seriousness of diabetes and its impact on individuals and the community. We also promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, and provide advice and guidance on how to on how to live a healthier life.

Diabetes Queensland works with all levels of government to advocate for policies and programs that improve the lives of people living with or at risk of diabetes. We play a strong role in policy development aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles among the Queensland population.

Connection and Support

We are committed to connecting and supporting individuals and communities living with diabetes. We offer a range of programs and services and where possible will link people with support in their local area. Some of our services include expert advice from health professionals via our contact centre, online information, recipes and resources, as well as events and connections to local services and support groups.

Education and Information

Diabetes Queensland delivers a broad range of educations events to help and support people living with all types of diabetes, their families and carers. Our events are designed to help you better understand your diabetes, so you can manage it with confidence. With over 600 events running across Queensland each year you are sure to find an event that meets your needs.

We also offer a range of programs and resources specifically designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Culturally Diverse groups.

Evidence and Research

Diabetes Queensland is committed to supporting the latest research and building the evidence base to inform new services, programs and policy to better the diabetes community. We do this through the Diabetes Australia Research Trust, which provides grants to research programs across Australia. There are currently a number of supported studies looking at better treatments and a possible future cure for diabetes.
